The Eldred Preserve is proud to welcome back Emmy-winning, Tony-nominated, and Grammy-nominated performer Liz Callaway to The Bradstan Cabaret Series on Sunday, July 5 at 7 p.m. Callaway returns with a brand-new show, “The Wizard and I: Liz Callaway Sings Stephen Schwartz” — celebrating the release of her new album of the same name. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., with showtime at 7 p.m.
Long celebrated as one of the foremost interpreters of Stephen Schwartz’s work, Callaway turns her full attention to his extraordinary catalog in an evening that is equal parts concert, memoir, and celebration. Drawing from Schwartz’s decades-spanning career — including beloved songs from “Wicked,” “Godspell,” “Pippin,” “The Baker’s Wife,” and more — the show pairs iconic music with personal stories from Callaway’s lifelong professional relationship and friendship with the legendary songwriter. The evening also features a new song Schwartz wrote especially for her. The live album was recorded over two sold-out nights at New York’s famed 54 Below.
“Liz Callaway is one of those performers who makes every seat in the room feel like the best seat in the house,” said Scott Samuelson, chief operating officer of The Eldred Preserve. “We’re thrilled to have her back — and with a show this personal and this beautifully crafted, it’s going to be an extraordinary night in the Catskills.”
Callaway’s career has spanned nearly 60 years and every form of media. She made her Broadway debut in Stephen Sondheim’s “Merrily We Roll Along,” earned a Tony nomination for “Baby,” and spent five years in the celebrated role of Grizabella in “Cats.” She has also starred in the original casts of “Miss Saigon,” “The Three Musketeers,” and “The Look of Love.” Beyond Broadway, she sang the Academy Award-nominated “Journey to the Past” in “Anastasia” and served as the singing voice of Princess Jasmine in Disney’s “Aladdin” sequels. Her previous album, “To Steve With Love: Liz Callaway Celebrates Sondheim,” received a 2023 Grammy nomination for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album.
